This Aspen sauna bench board is premium A grade Aspen, a bench board with all four edges softly rounded, machined for sauna use and supplied in a pack of 8 lengths of 28 x 65mm x 2.4m. Each pack gives 19.2 linear metres.
Why Aspen for saunas
Aspen is the classic Nordic sauna timber: pale, virtually knot-free and resin-free, with low heat conductivity so it stays comfortable to touch even at high temperatures, and it does not splinter. It is kiln dried and planed smooth, ready to install.
How many bench boards do I need?
As a guide, allow one 65mm board for every 75mm of bench depth (the board plus a 10mm gap). A typical 500mm deep bench needs about 7 boards across its depth. Each board is 2.4m long, so check the length against your bench span.
Installation
Fix bench boards from underneath to hardwood or sauna-grade bearers with stainless steel screws, so no metal is exposed on the seating surface, and leave a 5 to 10mm gap between boards for air flow.
Finishing and care
Leave untreated inside the hot room, or finish with a sauna wax or paraffin oil made for saunas. Never use varnish or ordinary paint inside a sauna. Wipe benches after use and let the sauna dry out with the door open.

Yes. Aspen is a traditional sauna timber with low heat conductivity, so it stays comfortable to touch, and it is resin-free so it will not weep sap in the heat.
Do I need to treat it?
No. It can be left untreated. If you want extra protection, use only a sauna wax or paraffin oil made for saunas, never varnish or ordinary paint.
Can it be fitted horizontally?
Yes, it can be fitted vertically or horizontally over battens. For horizontal cladding our shorter 1.0 to 1.8m lengths reduce waste.
