Rhombus cladding profile
Rhombus cladding has a section shaped like a parallelogram, with angled top and bottom faces. When fixed, the angles create a sharp, repeating shadow line that changes with the light across the day. It gives a contemporary, architectural look that stands apart from a plain board.
Where it is used
- Feature walls and entrance elevations on houses and extensions.
- Commercial frontages and timber screens.
- Soffits and canopies, where the angle helps shed water.
Orientation and gaps
Rhombus is normally fixed horizontally with the angles overlapping slightly or leaving a narrow open gap, depending on the look you want. The angled face sheds water but the profile is not a replacement for a proper cavity and breather membrane, so allow a ventilated gap behind and use insect mesh at the vents. Our timber cladding guide sets out the standard build-up.
Species and finishes
Pick larch, cedar or thermowood for exterior use, or a burnt finish from charred timber cladding for a dramatic dark wall. Oils and stains accentuate the shadow lines, and painted finishes are available on a 5 to 7 working day lead time.
Fixing and quantities
Fix with stainless screws or nails through the board at each batten, 400 to 600mm centres. Work out the covering width, not the overall width, to find the area per board, and add 10% for waste. If you need a different size, see bespoke cladding, and request a sample first through free timber samples.
