White Wax Internal Cladding for Walls and Ceilings
White-washed timber has been a favourite interior look for a long time. It brightens a room, keeps the grain visible and avoids the flat, plastic look of a solid white paint. Our SertiWOOD whitewash white wax internal cladding is made for exactly that job: feature walls, full rooms and ceilings.
What is white wax cladding?
It is tongue and groove internal cladding with a soft whitewash wax finish. The boards are made from slow-grown Nordic spruce, according to the product page, with a V-jointed face and a sanded, waxed and polished finish. Because the finish is a wash rather than an opaque paint, some of the natural wood grain shows through. That is the main difference from a fully painted board.
Each board has tongue and groove joints on all four edges, plus a special end profile so joints along the length can be made neatly. The product page says this allows long, continuous runs with a seamless finish.
Sizes and packs
- Profile size: 12 x 120mm
- Length: 2.357m
- Pack options: 8 pieces, or 112 pieces
- Samples: a one-piece sample is available
If you are not sure how the colour will look in your light, order a sample first. Whitewash can look cooler or warmer depending on daylight, bulbs and the colour of the walls around it. You will find the white wax sample among our timber samples and sample products.
Where it works well
The product page describes it as suitable for homes, offices, schools, bars, restaurants and hospitality venues. In practice, popular uses include:
- A feature wall behind a bed or sofa
- Full-height cladding in hallways and snugs
- Ceilings, where the light finish helps a low room feel brighter
- Home offices and other interior rooms
The boards can be fitted horizontally or vertically. Horizontal runs tend to make a room look wider; vertical runs emphasise height.
Installing white wax cladding
Boards are lightweight and quick to install. The usual approach is:
- Fix timber battens to the wall or ceiling, levelled and at regular centres. Follow your installer’s advice on spacing.
- Let the boards acclimatise in the room before fixing, as with any interior timber.
- Secret-fix the boards through the tongue so no fixings show on the face. We stock SertiWOOD cladding clips and nails for the 12x120mm internal rustic and white wax range (see our internal timber cladding category).
- Leave a small gap at the edges to allow for seasonal movement and cover it with trim.
For small marks or cut edges, we also sell a SertiWOOD white wax touch-up product for walls and ceilings, listed under finishes and treatments.
Looking after it
The page describes the cladding as low maintenance and easy to clean. A dry or lightly damp cloth is a sensible starting point. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners that could rub through a wax finish.
Like all interior timber, it will change slightly with humidity. Do not fit it where it will get wet, such as inside a shower enclosure. Ask us before choosing it for a bathroom or kitchen.
White wax or painted cladding?
If you want a stronger colour, our SertiWOOD painted internal cladding range may suit better, and we have a separate guide to the rustic coloured range. If you prefer the natural look of heat-treated timber, see Thermowood internal cladding. Browse everything on the internal timber cladding page.
Fire performance
If your project has fire requirements, such as a commercial or hospitality space, do not assume any interior cladding meets them. Check what applies with building control before you order. Our guide to fire retardant cladding explains the options.
Trends to watch
Natural, textured wall finishes continue to get attention in interiors, with soft, less uniform surfaces that let the material show. A whitewashed timber ceiling and walls in one pale tone is one way to take that direction without using flat paint. This is a general observation rather than data, and the best test is always a sample in your own room.
FAQs
Is white wax cladding the same as painted cladding?
No. A wax whitewash is a lighter, more transparent finish, so the grain shows through. Painted boards are more opaque and often come in stronger colours.
Can I use it on ceilings?
Yes. The product page states it is suitable for walls and ceilings.
Can I fit it horizontally and vertically?
Yes, both are listed as suitable.
Can I order a sample?
Yes, a sample piece is available through the site. Ring us on 0161 504 0011 if you want advice on matching it to your room.
